Our History

The Farm

In June 2000, Ray and Stacy Greenstreet purchased a greenhouse operation in Southern Anne Arundel County, Maryland with the plan to “grow some plants” and raise their family on the 55-acre farm. The roots of the greenhouse business began on the farm well before the Greenstreet family purchased it. In the mid-seventies, the previous owners established Windmere Nursery, a small-scale rooting station growing plants for Ball Seed Company’s wholesale customers. As Windmere grew, the farm’s neighbors dropped by the farm to purchase the extra plants for their own gardens and landscaping businesses, marking the beginning of the farm’s first retail store.

In the years since purchasing the farm and greenhouses from Windmere, the Greenstreet’s have grown Greenstreet Growers, Inc. from its humble beginnings into a dynamic and ever-expanding company now sitting on 65 acres. From the original greenhouses and retail sales location has sprouted three Greenstreet Gardens retail plant nursery centers – one still on the Lothian farm, and two urban garden centers in Alexandria, VA. In 2014, Greenstreet expanded to include a professional landscaping division serving residential and commercial customers in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

The Future

The latest addition to the Greenstreet family, Greenstreet GreenWalls, specializes in growing, designing, installing, and maintaining active green wall systems. Greenstreet has been engaged in the green wall industry since 2014, and their work is featured across the D.C. area with projects ranging from offices, restaurants, and medical centers. The green wall designers and project managers work closely with project architects, engineers, interior designers, as well as the client, to create a streamlined, successful, enjoyable finished product for years to come. Greenstreet has committed itself to high-quality results, built to satisfy all that experience one of their green walls.

“A living wall brings nature inside for a cleaner, healthier, more welcoming space. Green walls are the green way to purify indoor air.”
